Primary Burn Care Management Training

Overview

Sushma Koirala Memorial Hospital is providing technical support for a six-day Primary Burn Care Management Course, organized by the National Health Training Center (NHTC) and supported by BVS-Nepal (Burns Violence Survivors-Nepal). The course aims to build capacity in primary burn care across Nepal, combining lectures on burns epidemiology and pathophysiology with fluid resuscitation, acute emergency procedures and hands-on workshops in fluid management.

    Opening, Burns Epidemiology and Pathophysiology

    The Primary Burn Care Management Course got under way with a warm introduction of participants and a formal opening programme in the presence of the NHTC and BVS-Nepal teams. The BVS-Nepal team introduced their organization, followed by a comprehensive session on the epidemiology of burns from global, regional and national perspectives, and a detailed presentation on burns pathophysiology by Dr Raju Bhandari - a strong start to building capacity in primary burn care across Nepal.

    Day 2 focused on fluid resuscitation, paired with a hands-on workshop on fluid management, and on acute emergency procedures in burns. The sessions were expertly led by Prof. Ishwar Lohani and Dr Raju Bhandari, building stronger practical skills for better burn care outcomes.
